Young Peoples' Services

Independence Trust values young people and the contribution they make to society, and supports them to take more control of their lives, become more independent and realise their potential.

The aspirations of our work with young people reflect the five outcomes of Every Child Matters; that young people will:

Be healthy
Stay safe
Enjoy their lives and reach their potential
Contribute to their local community
Achieve a good standard of living.

Our services enable young people (over the age of 11) to talk in confidence about their emotions, stresses and troubles with someone who is trained, experienced and understanding at a time and place suited to their needs.

Sometimes our contact with a young person will be brief and they will be given advice, information and encouragement. Other times contact will last longer and support may be given over weeks or months. It will depend upon the needs of the young person.

Anxiety and stress may arise at school, in the family or through relationships and can lead to depression which may show as self harm or drug and alcohol misuse.

Our services are delivered in schools and a variety of community settings including our Wellbeing Centre in Gloucester.
